The Shino House lives two generations of families. Architect Kazuo Shinohara designed a crevice space by two identical wide stairs, in order to share their separated privacy. “Crevice” is a word extracted from the Japanese residential court, meaning two pieces of walls derived a narrow space.

Kazuo Shinohara
Kazuo Shinohara (1925-2006), one of the most influential Japanese architects in postwar international modernism. His effects on the discipline as a theorist, designer and teacher have been immense. His work is generally classified as having strong qualities of lucidity and ephemerality, combined rigorous geometry with traditional Japanese forms to create purist, poetic structures of modest scale but vast ambition.
